THE STORY BEHIND THE DAFT PUNK BAND NAME
Darlin’ was a French rock band formed in 1992 by Laurent Brancowitz, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. Their band name was taken from a Beach Boys song.
In the Melody Maker, a UK musical revue active from 1926 until 2000, writer Dave Jennings described Darlin”s single Cindy So Loud on May 1993 as a “daft punky thrash”. After reading it, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo adopted that phrase for their new band’s name and this is how the name Daft Punk came up.
